A five-day festival has been organised to celebrate the Award of Excellence for the 2013 Unesco Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation given to Wat Prayurawongsawas for the restoration of Phra Borommathat Maha Chedi. The event, which began on Wednesday, was organised by the temple and communities in Thon Buri and Klongsan areas and is aimed at boasting Thai cultural heritage. Apart from great food, organisers have lined up cultural activities and stage performances, including Khon masked dances, luk thung concerts and Thai martial arts. The effort to renovate the temple has also spread to the entire surrounding community. Community members aim to make the whole area a local historical site and a future tourism highlight.
