Joke โจ๊ก
Joke is made of short grain rice that is boiled until it turns into a thick oatmeal like porridge. It is served piping hot with an egg cracked in the middle, some pieces of pork for flavoring, and garnished with slices of ginger and parsley.

Khao Tom ข้าวต้ม

Khao Tom is the cousin of joke, but instead of short grain rice, normal long grain Thai rice is used. The grains are boiled in lots of water until they are soft and floating in a ricey soup.

Khao Tom includes similar Thai breakfast toppings as Joke, pork, eggs, ginger and parsley

Khao Neow Moo Ping ข้าวเหนียวหมูปิ้ง

A few sticks of fatty grilled pork with a little baggie of sticky rice is easy to eat on the go and is a great way to start off a fast paced day in Thailand!

Patongo ปาท่องโก๋

Patongo is the Thai version of the donut, a blob of lightly sweet dough deep fried until it is fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

Pantongo is made from a much lighter dough than a western donut and instead of an outside glaze, Thai donuts are eaten just plain or dipped into sweet custard like sauce.

Mange er ved at gaa i svime over hvor laekkert Thai mad er, det meste er sq da en gang SHIT.......Turist, styr dig !

Den kan da spises, men at gaa helt amok...Aj, slap lige lidt af..

thaimad er ok, noget smager godt andet ikke, personlig spiser jeg ikke thai ris suppe, danske retter som havre suppe eller havregrød er ikke min livret

Dim Sum Dumplings ติ๋มซำ

Adapted into the Thai culinary scene from the Chinese, various forms of dim sum are popular to eat for breakfast. Normally vendors just sell a few items like steamed buns (salapao) and greasy pork dumplings (shumai).

It’s not exactly the Hong Kong dim sum dining experience, but if pork is your thing, you might want a little bit of Thai dim sum!

Salapao ซาลาเปา

In Thailand, the salapao’s are smaller and often the choice of filling is limited to red barbecued pork, minced pork, sweet red beans or cream. When they are freshly steamed, these steamed little buns can be fantastic!

White steamed buns called ?salapao? are a popular snack in Thailand. They are sold at hawker stalls and roadside eateries as well as Chinese restaurants. Fillings for the buns can be savoury or sweet. Savoury salapao usually consist of barbecued or minced pork. The filling in the picture is ?sai mou daeng? (?moo daeng? = red roast pork). In this context, the word ?sai? means filling. The sweet buns are often favoured by overseas visitors and are usually available at 7-Eleven stores for around 10 to 15 Baht.

INGREDIENTS:
1.5 cups fermented dough1.5 cups all purpose flour½ cup cake flour½ cup castor sugar1 tsp ammonia1.5 tbsp baking powderFERMENTED DOUGH:
2 cups all purpose flour½ cup cake flour1 tsp fermented glutinous (sticky) rice flour¾ cup water2 tsp vegetable oilFILLING:
2 cups Chinese B.B.Q. pork, cut into small pieces1 cup B.B.Q. gravy, I tbsp chopped garlic2 tsp wheat flour,2 tbsp light soy sauce1 tbsp sugar,1 tsp sesame oil2 tbsp vegetable oilPREPARATION:
To make the fermented dough:
mix fermented glutinous rice flour with water and allow to stand for 5 minutes. Stir in both kinds of flour; add the vegetable oil and knead until smooth. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover and leave overnight.To make the filling:
fry chopped garlic in oil until fragrant add the B.B.Q. pork and stir well. Follow with the wheat flour and gravy, stirring until the flour is done and thickened. Season to taste with soy sauce, sugar and sesame oil. Stir together well, then remove from heat.Mix the dough with ammonia and leave to stand for 5 minutes.Sift both kinds of flour with baking powder, then add to the fermented dough. Add sugar and knead until a smooth dough forms. Divide into 20 gram portions. Spread the dough into thin sheets, making a dome in the center. Place 1 tbsp of the filling in the center and gather the sides to form a nice bun shape. Place each bun on a sheet of paper, and arrange on the dim sum trays.Bring the water in a steamer to a boil; place the dim sum trays in the steamer and steam for 10 minutes. Remove and serve hot.

Khao Neow Dam Sang Kaya ข้าวเหนียวสังขยา

Sweet sticky rice topped with a slice of custard and wrapped in a dainty banana leaf is another popular thing to eat for breakfast in Thailand. Though there are a number of different variations, my all-time favorite is khao neow dam sangkaya, black sticky rice with custard!

Khanom Pang ขนมปัง (Waffles / Bread)

Believe it or not, a few slices of white bread spread with butter is a very common form of Thai breakfast. Also there are lots and lots of little snacks like sweet waffles and little baked goods that are popular to eat as breakfast hold-overs.

Kai Luak ไข่ลวก

An omelet, maybe, a fried egg, possibly.. but if you’re looking for the real Thai eggs for breakfast you’ll be taking a shot glass of Kai Luak ไข่ลวก

Kai Luak is basically a soft boiled egg, and most Thais choose to enjoy it along with a fresh cup of coffee to make a truly protein rich muscle building breakfast. Though both males and females enjoy it, it gives a little bit of man-power (so they say)!
