Passengers on a Scoot flight from Singapore to Bangkok feared for their lives when a technical fault caused the aircraft to catch fire yesterday afternoon.

Pictures taken by a passenger on the TR605 flight showed a plume-filled cabin.

The Airbus A321 departed Bangkok at 3.56pm and was due to arrive in Singapore at 7.15pm.

Exiled former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has expressed his desire to return home to Thailand by July to care for his grandchildren, as stated in a recent tweet.

Thaksin has failed to keep previous pledges to return, but this is the first time in recent years that a timeframe has been mentioned.

However, with several corruption cases and prison sentences handed down by Thai courts, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to fulfil his latest promise to return home.
