Warning: Heavy rain, flash floods

The Meteorological Department on Thursday morning issued a warning for people in the East and the western part of the South to brace for heavy rain and possible flash floods today and tomorrow.

The department said heavy rain will occur as the strong southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

People living near hillsides and waterways in Nakhon Nayok, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun should prepare for heavy rain and flash flooding.

There will also be strong wind generated waves in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand. All ships should proceed with caution, and small boats should keep ashore today and tomorrow, the department said.

The National Disaster Warning Centre this morning also issued a warning for people in Nakhon Nayok, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun to prepare for heavy rain and possible flash floods today and tomorrow.
