A 52-year-old Danish man took his own life on Friday morning when he jumped from the 34th floor of a Pattaya condo.

Emergency services were called to the condo on Pattaya Sai 2 Road at around 8am to find the man laid in a pool of blood in a car park under construction.

The man suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police told local reporters they found a note in the mans room during a search that said he no longer wanted to live.

The body was sent for an autopsy and the Danish embassy informed of the death.

lidt nyt i sagen

Michael Peter Terkildsen

Financial problems drove a 52-year-old tourist from Denmark into suicide. He jumped to his death from the 34th floor of a 44-story-condominium in Pattaya.

Pattaya police were informed at about 07:30 on Friday morning. Investigators denied naming the condominium from where he had fallen. However, research concluded the incident had most likely happened at Centric Sea Condominium located at Pattaya Rd 2 in Prue subdistrict, Chon Buri province.

Mueang Pattaya Provincial Police Station identified the man as 52-year-old Michael Peter Terkildsen. He was found in a parking lot of another building belonging to the condominium that was still under construction.

“The first impression was quite macabre,” Pol Lt and deputy investigator Narong Janta remembered his arrival. “Mr Terkildsen’s body was completely squashed.” In fact, the impact of the fall from the building had caused his skull to crush open and surround his body with a pool of blood.

First attempts at clearing the case showed that Mr Terkildsen had been renting a room in the condominium on the 34th floor. The homeowner told police that Mr Terkildsen had been living there with his Thai wife for about three years.

However, neighboring tenants told police that the woman, who police said was 30 years old, had moved in and out of apartment several times. The unhappy marriage between the two took its toll when Mr Terkildsen, left alone once again, decided to end his life.

“But that was only half of the story,” Pol Lt Narong warned. “According to the testimony of several of Mr Terkildsen’s friends, she had deceived him for financial reasons.” In the end, Mr Terkildsen lost over 3 million baht – money that was meant to cover his expenses in his adopted country.

When investigators inspected his room in the 34th floor, they found a letter written by Mr Terkildsen which seemed to explain at least one reason for his suicide: “I don’t want to live anymore because I’m broke!”

“We ordered Mr Terkildsen’s body to be sent to Police General Hospital in Bangkok to verify the cause of death,” Pol Lt Narong confirmed. “We are also looking for Mr Terkildsen’s ex-wife to question her over the incident.”
