Pol Gen Pongpat Chayaphan, former Central Investigation Bureau commissioner, six other police officers and three civilians have been arrested on lese majeste charges, a police source said.

The source said investigators will Monday seek an approval from the Criminal Court to extend the detention of Pongpat and the nine other suspects pending further investigation.

Net hauls in 'big fish'

Police have confirmed the arrest of CIB chief Pol Lt Gen Pongpat Chayaphan and seven others on a variety of serious charges, while two civilians who face other connected charges are on the run and being tracked down.

Spokesman Prawut Thawornsiri said the eight had warrants issued for them and have been arrested. Police will seek approval from the Criminal Court on Monday for detention.
